Governance refers to the rules, policies and procedures that allow Councils and other organisation to determine who in the organisation makes decision, It is the legal, ethical and sustainable framework that allows Councillors and Administration meet the needs of our residents. It is also the processes where the decision by Councillors and Administration can be held to account.
An effective Council is one where there is mutual respect between Councillors and the General Manager. That does not preclude strong healthy debate in the chamber nor questioning the reports tabled by the Administration. Good debate can lead to better outcomes for the community if Councillors are prepared to compromise and play the ball not the person.
